Status
of A2486: This bill, sponsored by Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-3),
would
prohibit New Jersey state government from proposing or adopting
“…any new rule that would exceed standards or requirements set
forth by the federal government unless specifically authorized by State
law.” If enacted, this legislation would roll back decades of
health, worker, environmental and other protections. o NJEA
Opposes this
bill and has met with the Speaker to address concerns o This
legislation
appears to be dormant at this current time.

Anti-Bullying
legislation has been signed by the governor and will take effect in
September,
2011.
o Implementation
of
this legislation will need to be carefully monitored by NJEA Local
Leaders.
